About Kate

Kate Borger with Oliver

Kate Borger

A native New Yorker who cut her teeth at NYU's college radio station, then community radio at Pacifica's WBAI and public radio at WNYC. Now a Pittsburgher for over two decades, Kate brings more than 25 years of radio host and DJ experience to WZUM.

Before joining WZUM, Kate was the founder and host of The Roots and Rhythm Mix on WYEP for 11 years, making her a familiar voice to Pittsburgh music audiences.

Kate believes that “music from anywhere in the world and from any genre can be a happy, joyous and uplifting experience.” That philosophy drives every episode of Rhythm-a-ning.

The Show

Rhythm-a-ning

Named after the Thelonious Monk composition, Rhythm-a-ning blends jazz with world music, bossa nova, blues, and sounds from across the globe. Each episode is built around a theme — celebrating an artist's birthday, exploring a season, honoring women in jazz, or simply playing music Kate loves.

The show airs Fridays at 10 AM and Saturdays at 11 AM on WZUM, the Pittsburgh Jazz Channel.
